Eight is Great....

Best birthday gift EVER. Yup. He said it. When Nick and I were in Chicago last month, we went to the Lincoln Park Zoo. They had a booth set up where you could pick animals to 'adopt.' Basically, you made a donation, and your money went directly to the care and preservation of the animal species you selected. You would get a certificate proclaiming your 'ownership,' along with a photo and a stuffed animal. We decided on the sloth, because they were our favorite characters in the movie 'Zootopia.'
I had been anxiously waiting for a month to give him this gift, and his reaction was more than we could have anticipated! He absolutely loved it. He told EVERYONE. Really. Anyone who would listen. He is most excited because we are going to Chicago in July, and he will be able to go visit her (her name is Hersey, and she had a baby last summer!) while we are there.
Happy 8th Birthday to my first baby, Brixon!

On a Mission...

Instead of just posting once or twice a month about big events, I'm trying to be a little more introspective this year. We have so many things going on, from work to school to extracurriculars that I seem to have lost sight of the present. I took a meditation workshop last week, and really enjoyed it. There is a lot to be said about taking a few moments each day for quiet reflection and silence. I have become more aware of my tendency to need to always have things in order and all of the boxes checked. I am going to attempt to be more conscious of my need to always try and have things under control...we'll see how this goes :)

Off to the Races...

The first weekend in January, Nick and Brixon headed up to Daytona for Scouting Day at the Daytona International Speedway. They were really looking forward to camping on the infield! The weather had other plans, though. It was cold and rainy, and at around 3am on Saturday, they ended up sleeping in the car! It rained until around noon on Saturday, but they spent the afternoon and evening watching practices for the Rolex24 race and touring the garages! After watching some night racing, they decided to head home a little early...they couldn't really bear the thought of another cold, wet night. But they made some great memories!
