It all started with a staple...

On October 8th, 2011 at 8:17am, we were thrilled to welcome our new little man, Hudson Brody Nemec (15 days early! My previous post should have read 'a little over three weeks', not two)...and it all started with a staple...
Wednesday night, the 6th, I was looking forward to my 4 minutes and 18 seconds of peace and quiet that I get when I take a shower. I hadn't even stepped in yet when I hear Nick yell (and he never yells) "Casey! We've gotta go NOW!" He comes running into the bathroom with a screaming and heavily bleeding Brixon, every mother's worst nightmare. He was running on the couch (which is a battle we fight every single night), and as he was running, the dog tried jumping off. She knocked him backwards, and he hit the back of his head on the table. We ran to the ER, where we had to sit for FOUR HOURS before he was admitted. The cut required one staple, which is a difficult procedure for a parent to watch. I felt awful for him, but he handled it like a champ, and was out before we were even discharged. And that's when the contractions started. Not bad, but different than what I had been feeling. I went home, went to bed, and looked forward to my OB appointment the next morning.
Thursday morning, we went to see Dr. Okomski, where she told me that I was 3cm dilated and 75% effaced. I started a minor panic, thinking of all that I still had to do to prepare. She said 3cm meant that I could go in an hour or in a week...so I was hoping for a week. I kiddingly asked her if she was going to be in town that weekend. Which was followed by "Well....actually..." Sigh. She was going to Orlando Friday and Saturday, but if anything should happen before she left, she said to call her and she would stay home. So we went home, and I tried to relax, but the contractions were getting a little heavier. Thursday night and into Friday morning, it seemed like they were starting to subside, so I was relieved! Until around 4pm on Friday, when I noticed that I was bleeding a little bit. I called the doctor, and since I didn't have any other symptoms (and she had left by that point), she said just to watch it. I had been promising Brixon all day that we would go downtown to Oktoberfest so he could listen to the music. I debated, and decided that if this process were already underway, sitting on the couch wouldn't keep him in any longer! So we headed out...it was a beautiful night, and we enjoyed just sitting outside for a while. We left around 7, and came home because Brixon wanted to watch a Halloween movie. I jumped into the shower, got my sweats on, and sat down to watch 'Hocus Pocus.' We were no more than five minutes into it when I coughed, and that was it. I said "ummm, Nick?? We have to go! My water just broke!" Poor Brixon couldn't figure out what the heck that meant, and just why I was running all over the house grabbing suitcases, video cameras and pillows. After dropping him off at the neighbor's house, we were off to the hospital. Let me tell you just how different it is from going from an inducement, like with Brixon, where everything is in order, to being caught off-guard over two weeks early! I wanted my floors mopped!!!! Nonetheless, he was on his way, and we were excited! After 12 hours of labor and an epidural that only numbed the top of my left thigh (?), a doctor other than my own delivered a healthy 7lb., 7oz, 19 inch long cutie pie!! Just 30 hours later, we were home, and the craziness ensued! We are adjusting to life with two little ones, and have been fighting a jaundice battle that has had us getting labs done at the hospital every day since we left, but he is great. And Brixon couldn't be a better big brother! He keeps telling everyone about his 'baby' and 'my brother,' and 'how his mommy's water broke' (just what the cashier at Publix needed to know :))
So my posts with probably be a little more sparse these days (yes, I still need to post photos of Brixon's room!), but I'll do the best I can!!
At Oktoberfest...just an hour before we had to go in!

Clearly not having any major contractions at this point!
My dad can sleep anywhere!
Epidural not working....Casey not happy...Nick getting yelled at for seizing photo opportunity
We're ready for you!

Going home!
Not related to Hudson's birth, but Brixon finally got potty trained, so he got the kitchen he wanted! (So he can cook just like the chef at the Japanese restaurant ;))
